He does not want to lead a life characteristic of his circle. Larry realizes that he can not live like these people. And not because he is elected, just different. He reads books, interested in religion, philosophy, psychology, met with different people, working for the sake of learning something new experience at the mine, on a farm, living in one country or the other. His old friends, this life seems to be a strange and useless. Larry always goes as it were, on the razors edge, deliberately driving himself in difficult living conditions. I think he is about to break and fly off into the abyss, to end the life of a man dipping. But throughout the novel is the protagonist never aroused feelings of pity in me. In my opinion, only Larry really lived and existed, and found what he was looking for. In the book, everyone has their own destiny, and it seems like everyone gets what they want. At the end of the novel the author says: All of my characters is found, something to aspire to: Elliot access to higher realms; Isabella a strong position in the cultural circle; Gray a permanent profitable business; Suzanne Rouvier confidence in the future; Sophie death and Larry happiness. So what is the meaning of life? What is happiness? This book raises questions about the eternal questions of existence.
