Ambiguities in the Textual Body of The Castle of Otranto Essay
Incongruous Corpus: Ambiguities in the Textual Body of The Castle of Otranto While the relationship of the Gothic to the Romantic is debatable, the persistent desire of some critics to see it as pre-Romantic should not disguise the possibility that the genre is ââ¬Å"actually sending out very contradictory impulses about its own intentions, [and] adopting certain strategies that thwart the very perceptions it seems to be on the brink of achievingâ⬠(Napier, 4). This uncertainty in form and intent has produced imprecision and imbalances in Gothic novels that are partly the result of instability within the Gothic form. Although the Gothic achieves stability by repeating a certain pattern of accepted conventions, leading to remarkable coherence in the ââ¬Å"routine likeness of one romance to anotherâ⬠(Napier, 4), one must be mindful that the Gothic is ââ¬Å"formally and stylistically marked by disequilibriumâ⬠(Napier, 4). The imbalance, dissolution, and formal unevenness of the Gothic genre, which some scholars claim are recurrent issues with in the genre, are found as early as the first Gothic novel in The Castle of Otranto. Their existence in Otranto suggests the profound uncertainty Walpole had about the intent of the genre as he perceived it and hints at the immense task the author faced in establishing a new genre that required the ââ¬Å"difficult and uneven breaking away from the more carefully structured and considered narratives of the preceding periodâ⬠(Napier, 5). Walpoleââ¬â¢s inability to provide a thorough theoretical explanation of the intent of the genre and breakaway cleanly from pre-existing narrative norms accounts, in part, for the presence of tonal and modal incongruities within the textual body of Otranto. An examination of the theo... .... Meaning is deflected to surfaces and nothing about a character is truly known beyond what is necessary to further the plot. Nonetheless, despite all the structural incongruities within the body of Otranto, Walpole was successful in establishing a genre that later practitioners perfected. Works Cited Clery, E. J. Legislative Requirements Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to identify the key aspects of current legislative requirements and codes of practice for teaching within the animal care sector. As a teacher within the establishment, it is my responsibility to ensure that none of my students are disadvantaged, by taking into account the Equal opportunity legislation, formally known as the Equality Act 2010, which came into force on the 6th October. It states that ââ¬Å"no one is to be discriminated against irrespective of age, ethnic origin, gender, race, nationality, disability or domestic circumstancesâ⬠the Equality act also replaces the Disability discrimination act. It would be my responsibility as a teacher, to ensure that any resources such as handouts and other learning material are free from bias (Wilson 2008 Pg 21 chap 1). Being in part, a vocational course, the health and safety at work act 1974 would be a key legislative requirement, as an educator I would be expected to demonstrate a model of best practice for my students to look up to and follow, subsequently, The management of Health and safety at work regulations 1999 would also be another piece of legislation which would be particulary relevant Furthermore, as an educator by law I have a duty of care towards my students, the legislation states that as teachers if you are proven negligent, you may have to compensate the injured party, not only does this apply to individuals but the organisation as well, I would have to ensure that whilst providing learners the opportunity to experiment and develop independence, it would have to be achieved in a safe working environment. Reporting of injuries diseases and dangerous occurrences 1995 is also relevant, being an educator in a potentially hazardous environment, more commonly known as RIDDOR, and states that certain incidents are reportable by law, they must be reported to the health and safety executive and the local authority, An example of this being if hospital treatment is needed to be administered to a student following an activity, the educational establishment should have clear guidelines on how to report incidents. There are numerous legislative requirements which as an educator I would have to adhere to. Wilson (2008) states that whilst some of these aspects need only awareness of context, many of them will impact on your first teaching experience, therefore require a detailed knowledge.

How Dysons Supersonic Hair Dryer Works
Regarding the hair dryer, renowned inventor Sir James Dyson had this to say: Hair dryers can be heavy, inefficient, and make a racket. By looking at them further, we realized that they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair. With this in mind, Dyson would go on to challenge his team of engineers, designers, and creative minds to come up with a solution. The result, the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, was unveiled at a press event in Tokyo in 2016. It was a culmination of four years, $71 million, 600 prototypes, over 100 patents pending, and rigorous testing on so much hair that if laid out as a single strand would stretch 1,010 miles. The result, though, was quintessential Dyson: a compact, sleek design that quietly packs several finely tuned high tech advancements meant to address some of the major flaws with most hair dryers currently on the market. Easy and Well-Designed Like many of his inventions, Dysons first foray into the beauty industry combines his signature cutting-edge sensibilities with a pleasingly minimalist aesthetic. Instead of vents and other clunky segmented parts, his dryer is comprised of a smooth handle that simply extends toward a circular ring sitting on top. When directly facing the blower end, the dryer resembles another signature Dyson productââ¬âthe bladeless fan. Thatââ¬â¢s not by coincidence, of course. Dysonââ¬â¢s modernist take on hair drying is powered by a smaller version of the hidden motor used inside the companys line of uber-quiet cooling machines. Called the V9, this motor is the companyââ¬â¢s smallest and lightest motor to date. It can run at a speed of over 110,000 rotations per minute, fast enough to produce ultrasonic sound waves that register as inaudible to the human ear. Miniaturizing the technology to the point where its roughly the diameter of a quarter also allows the product designers to fit it inside the handle to ensure proper weight balance. That way the user doesnt feel the strain of having to hold and maneuver a top-heavy object.à Fixing Common Problems Besides enhanced comfort and ease of use, the Supersonic dryer was designed from the ground up to eliminate some of the most vexing issues people have with hair drying. For instance,à blown air from hair dryers tends to be uneven, and the turbulence can cause strands of hair to tangleââ¬âthis is more often the case with those who have less than straight hair. Dysons Air Multiplier technologyââ¬âfound in both the Supersonic dryer and its line of bladeless fansââ¬âcreates a high-velocity air stream by sucking air upward toward the rim where its joined with air brought in through the back and then channeled outward in a horizontal direction. The result is a smooth, even flow of air.à Another common problem is that overly hot air can ruin the surface texture and resiliency of natural hair to the point where shampoo and conditioning treatments canââ¬â¢t undo the harm. To prevent heat damage, Dyson engineers added heat sensors that gauge and help regulate the airflow temperature by continuously relaying readings at a rate of 20 times per second to the main microprocessor. The data is used to adjust the motor speed automatically so that temperatures are kept within a safe range. The Price of Excellence Rounding out the list of notable enhancements, the dryer also includes a removable filter at the bottom of the handle to catch lost strands of hair (like a lint trap) and three attachments that connect magnetically to the blower head. Thereââ¬â¢s the smoothing nozzle, which spreads a wide air stream across the surface to avoid messy, displaced strands as you gently dry your hair; the concentrator nozzle, which creates a more focused stream of air thatââ¬â¢s ideal for shaping different parts; and the diffuser nozzle, which reduces the frizz of curly hair by distributing air softly without disturbing the curls. The bottom line, though, is if any of usà really needs a fancy, futuristic hair dryer or if such benefits are ultimately little more than a luxury. With a $400 price tag, the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is a hefty investment. The question of whether or not the benefits are worth the cost is up to you.

The Inexact Science of Climatology - 667 Words
Climatology is an inexact science to say the least. The only undisputed facts are: there are gases that are transparent to ultraviolet light but absorb infrared radiation, creating the ââ¬Ëgreenhouse effectââ¬â¢, and human activity has caused the accumulation of greenhouse gasses to increase across the world (McKibben Wilcoxen, 2002). The application of microeconomic principles can be used to address some of the fallout of the climate change caused by the greenhouse effect. In this paper we will take a look at three such measures and what their application can mean to the industry. The same way that there are various uncertain factors when accounting for climate change (clouds, ocean temperature, aerosolsââ¬â¢ effect, etc.), there are various microeconomic principles that can be applied to help reduce emissions, with equally diverse results. One of the most limiting forms of creating clean emissions standards is a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) limited to renewable tech nology (Paul, Palmer Woerman, 2011). This is restrictive because of an unfair distribution of credits dependent upon which technology the RPS is being applied to. For example, an RPS that treats all renewables equally would highly encourage the low-cost renewables like bio-mass and wind, while high-cost renewables like solar would not be promoted as fairly (Paul, Palmer Woerman). Some states help address this disproportion allotment with ââ¬Ëcarve-outsââ¬â¢ or portions of the RPS that addresses separate renewables

Corporate Financial Management Investments -Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Corporate Financial Management Investments? Answer: Introducation The engineering firm should take the help of external sources of finance for purchasing of machinery/ equipment which is worth 4,00,000. It may take bank finance option that is the loan from the bank for a medium term of 5 to 10 years and should not use the retained earnings of the company. The reason for the same is that the company has to construct a new building also, the estimated cost of which is 1,50,000 for which the company might have used its owned funds (Henderson et. al, 2015). Hence, the company should not further exhaust its owned funds and take a bank loan for the same and pay it off in installments. The individual should either opt for long-term loan or take the building on lease. He should not use his own funds fully and only the margin money should be paid by him from his owned funds. The reason for the same is that he has lost his job and has received some payment as redundancy compensation. It is not viable for him to purchase a building by paying such huge amount of 180000 himself. Hence she should opt for external financing and most preferably on lease (Atrill, 2009). A large plc is planning on moving a major part of its production facility to Cornwall. The estimated cost of the new facility is 4.5 million which is a huge amount. The company might not get such a huge sum of the loan. It should opt for a combination of different sources as such a large amount cannot be raised through a single source of finance. The combination can be : The issue of shares company can raise funds by selling off its shares and the purchaser becomes the part owner of the company and gets dividends from the company (Henderson et. al, 2015). Sale of assets- if the company is having any assets that are no longer used, it can sell off such assets and raise funds. Bank Loan- the company can raise some funds through bank finance also. The club should opt for a bank loan and bank overdraft. But if the club has its retained earnings and it does not want to get into the huge obligation of the bank loans, it can use a combination of its owned funds and bank loans. The amount to be raised is a heavy amount and as such, it is not possible to finance it through internal sources alone. Hence it is advisable to take a loan from the bank. Also, the trade credit can be taken from the suppliers for short term from whom the material for revamping the ground will be taken (Correia et. al, 2005). The estimated cost of the new facility is 4.5 billion which is a huge amount. The company might not get such a huge sum of the loan. It should opt for a combination of different sources as such a large amount cannot be raised through a single source of finance. The combination can be : The issue of shares company can raise funds by selling off its shares and the purchaser becomes the part owner of the company and gets dividends from the company (Healy Palepu, 2012). The issue of debentures- debentures have a fixed rate of interest. Bank Loan- the company can raise some funds through bank finance also. The company can offer the issue of its debentures and shares to the seller company also as a part of purchase consideration. As the newsagent is in a rural area and might not have any funds in hand, he can take the option of applying for a government grant. The reason is that the purpose of purchase of an asset is the welfare of villagers and hence the government may grant some funds for that. Another option that can be taken is bank loan for short term or medium term and most preferably for medium term so that the loan can be divided into small installments and can be easily paid by the newsagent (Albrecht et. al, 2011). As the charity organization must be getting some funds during the year in the form of donation, it can use such funds as part finance for purchasing the new equipment and the remaining amount can be taken as a bank loan (Healy Palepu, 2012). In case there is a shortage of owned funds, the organization can also opt for the leasing of the equipment for few years. The cost of restaurant and gym which comes to around 95,000 should be met out with external sources of finance like bank loan for a medium-term of 5-10 years as the group has already incurred heavy expenses on the purchase of building and it will not be viable to use their internal funds such as their savings (Albrecht et. al, 2011). Hence they should approach a bank for a short-term loan up to 5 years. The equipment for the gym can be taken on lease basis also. At the end of lease term, the equipment will become the property of the group. References Atrill, P (2009). Financial management for decision makers. razor sharp Review Essay Example
razor sharp Review Paper Essay on razor sharp In the novel razors edge I was struck by the main character Larry (he was the author pays special attention to his story, the man is particularly interesting, his thoughts are fascinating and make you think). He does not want to lead a life characteristic of his circle. Larry realizes that he can not live like these people. And not because he is elected, just different. Pretend not what I am, I did not want to says Larry. So he starts to look for something, he did not at first aware of what it is. Perhaps the meaning of life: What is life in general, and whether it has any meaning or is it just a tragic mistake of blind fate? He reads books, interested in religion, philosophy, psychology, met with different people, working for the sake of learning something new experience at the mine, on a farm, living in one country or the other. His old friends, this life seems to be a strange and useless. Larry always goes as it were, on the razors edge, deliberately driving himself in difficult living conditions. I think he is about to break and fly off into the abyss, to end the life of a man dipping. But throughout the novel is the protagonist never aroused feelings of pity in me. In my opinion, only Larry really lived and existed, and found what he was looking for. In the book, everyone has their own destiny, and it seems like everyone gets what they want. At the end of the novel the author says: All of my characters is found, something to aspire to: Elliot access to higher realms; Isabella a strong position in the cultural circle; Gray a permanent profitable business; Suzanne Rouvier confidence in the future; Sophie death and Larry happiness. So what is the meaning of life? What is happiness? This book raises questions about the eternal questions of existence.
